Macaroni And Cheese

One of Carrye’s favorite recipes from home.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cup uncooked macaroni
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon flour
  • 1 3/4 cup milk
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut up

Directions

  • Cook macaroni according to package.  Cook and stir butter, onion and salt and pepper over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is smooth and bubbly.  Remove from heat; stir in milk.  Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.  Boil and stir 1 minute; remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted.  Put macaroni in an ungreased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.  Stir in cheese sauce. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

Notes

  • You can add diced tomato to mixture and/or bread crumbs on top.
