This peppery appetizer is a foavorite of mine. It sounds complicated, but it truly is easy to prepare ahead of time and then bake right before the guests arrrive.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2-3 teaspoon cracked black pepper
- 8 ounces blue cheese crumbles
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
Directions
- In a medium bowl, combine flour and pepper. Cut in cheese a softened butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in walnuts and egg yolks. Form mixture into a ball; kneed until well mixed. *I added more softened butter in order to get it to come to a dough consistency* Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a 9 inch log. If desired, flatten the sides, making a square log/ Wrap and chill for at least 3 hours
- Preheat oven to 425*. Cut logs into 1/4 inch slices. Place one inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until bottoms and edges are golden. Transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Notes
- Makes 72 appetizers
